WaterColor Inn & Resort recognized Golf for Women best of list

WATERSOUND, Fla. -- The St. Joe Company announces the WaterColor Inn & Resort and its affiliated golf courses – Camp Creek Golf Club and The Origins Course – have been named to Golf for Women’s inaugural list of the “Top 25 Best Family Resorts.”

Just in time for making those summer vacation plans, Golf For Women revealed the first-ever list of the resorts that offer a great golf experience for the entire family. The properties selected offer a total family golf experience complete with junior tees, junior-specific instruction, junior club rentals and family tee times. By way of their programs and policies, these resorts have taken the lead in making golf a game that appeals to future generations.

“This is a great honor and a tremendous validation of the time, energy and resources The St. Joe Company has invested in developing facilities for junior and family golf,” says Camp Creek General Manager Will Hopkins.

WaterColor Inn & Resort was singled out by the magazine’s editors in a multi-page feature that focused on the recently-opened Origins Course, designed by PGA Tour player Davis Love III. A concept course built specifically for families and beginners, The Origins Course plays as a six-hole regulation, nine-hole executive or 10-hole par three layout through the use of alternate greens and tee boxes. As Love III states, the name recalls “the very origin of the game, when it revolved around a community recreational activity that could be enjoyed by everyone.”

Its non-penal design (there are few bunkers and fairways are wide and flat) and manageable distance (approximately 1,800 yards) appeals to novices and families seeking an enjoyable round of golf that doesn’t consume four to five hours. Yet the regulation-length holes (three par 3s, two par 4s and one par 5s) and green complexes built to U.S.G.A specifications provide enough challenge and strategy to retain the interest of avid and experienced players.

Not all families are new to golf, however. And the award-winning, Tom-Fazio designed Camp Creek Golf Club presents seasoned players with a true 7,100-yard-plus championship challenge. Located just five minutes from The Origins Course, Camp Creek’s dunescape appearance, natural wetlands and ethereal vistas create one of the most memorable golf experiences in the state. Camp Creek, in conjunction with The Origins Course, hosts four-day summer junior golf camp that is available to resort guests and the general public.

About Camp Creek
Since opening in 2001, Camp Creek has been consistently cited as one of Tom Fazio's most thought-provoking, aesthetically-stunning design credits. Featuring a unique “dunescape” appearance, the course was created as a private club for property owners at select St. Joe communities, and guests of St. Joe’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach resorts. From the back green tees, the course plays to a championship caliber yardage of 7,159 and a formidable slope rating of 145. Camp Creek’s five-tee configuration, which also includes gold (senior) and red (women’s) tees, accommodates players of all skill and experience levels. Travel + Leisure Golf recently recognized Camp Creek as “Florida’s No. 1 Course of the New Millennium.” It has also been recognized for its environmental stewardship through designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). Superintenden! t Larry Livingston was similarly distinguished as a certified Audubon Steward.
