Norman and Ballesteros to play 68th Senior PGA Championship

Two time Open Champion Greg Norman and five-time major champion Seve Ballesteros have made commitments to compete in the 68th Senior PGA Championship, May 22-27, at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island (S.C.) Golf Resort.

Overall, the 156-player field features 24 players who have combined to win 60 major championships.

One of the most recognizable players in modern golf, Norman is a winner of 88 titles worldwide including two Open Championships. Known by his moniker, the Great White Shark, he held the No. 1 spot in the Official World Rankings for 331 weeks at the peak of his PGA career. Ballesteros is an icon on the international golf scene with his swashbuckler style of play that won him three British Open Championships and two Masters titles, along with an impressive 20-12-5 record in the Ryder Cup.

Ballesteros is probably best known for his competitive spirit when he was paired with Jose Maria Olazabal during the 1991 Ryder Cup contested on The Ocean Course.

Additionally, every eligible U.S. member of the 1991 Ryder Cup team has committed to play including Chip Beck, Raymond Floyd, Hale Irwin, Wayne Levi, Mark O'Meara, Lanny Wadkins and Captain Dave Stockton. On the European side, three of the four eligible Ryder Cup team members will be returning to Kiawah Island including Ballesteros, Mark James and Sam Torrance.

Since 1937, golf's best professionals have been competing for the Senior PGA Championship's coveted Alfred S. Bourne Trophy. Past champions include Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino, as well as returning players Gary Player, Floyd, Watson and Irwin. The Senior PGA is the oldest and most prestigious event in senior golf, and makes its first appearance in South Carolina.
