Steve Forrest, a Toledo, Ohio-based golf course architect, was elected President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) at the organization’s recent 61st Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Ga.
Forrest, who has served as an ASGCA officer for the past three years, will also chair the ASGCA Executive Committee. Other members of the Executive Committee include Bruce Charlton, Palo Alto, Calif., Vice President; Doug Carrick, Don Mills, Ontario, Canada, Treasurer; Erik Larsen, Orlando, Fla., Secretary and Greg Muirhead, Montclair, N.J., Immediate Past President.
Joining members of the Executive Committee on the ASGCA Board of Governors are Ed Beidel, Columbia, Md.; Perry Dye, Denver, Colo.; Garrett Gill, River Falls, Wis.; Vicki Martz, Jacksonville, Fla.; Robin Nelson, Mill Valley, Calif.; Rick Phelps, Evergreen, Colo.; Forrest Richardson, Phoenix, Ariz. and Steve Smyers, Lakeland, Fla.
Leading Golf Course Architect
Steve Forrest has worked with Toledo-based golf course architect Arthur Hills since his college days at Virginia Tech as a landscape architecture student. He joined Hills’ firm full time upon graduation in 1979, and the firm was reincorporated as Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates in 1999. Among the notable layouts recently designed by Forrest are The Links at Lighthouse Sound, Ocean City, Md.; Red Hawk Run, Findlay, Ohio; Sand Golf Club, Jonkoping, Sweden; The Journey at Pechanga, Temecula, Calif. and White Clay Creek Country Club, Wilmington, Del.
Forrest became a full member of ASGCA in 1988. As an ASGCA member, he has served on the Board of Governors and as Chairman of the Membership Committee.
As President, Forrest will continue to work closely with the Allied Associations of Golf to help grow the game of golf and the golf industry. He will also work to provide added professional development opportunities for ASGCA members.
Forrest resides in Toledo, Ohio with his wife Julie and has two grown children.

Founded in 1946 by 14 leading architects, including Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the American Society of Golf Course Architects is a non-profit organization comprised of 182 golf course designers located throughout the United States and Canada.
