Anyone hear about this new Pro Women's Victory Tour that was unveiled yesterday in Orlando?

It will offer purses bigger than the current Futures Tour, starting with $100K next year. It's purpose will be to accommodate the growing number of female professionals who need places to compete. The tour will have eight events next year and if it's still around, twelve in 2009.

On hand at the grand unveiling of the tour was Lee Elder, the man who broke the color barrier at Augusta as the first African American to play at the Masters and Ryder Cup. It was a necessary inclusion for tour organizers, considering how much challenging racism has to do with creating a profitable women's sub-tour.

Look, it's easy to get excited at the prospect of all the young female talent out there, but this tour has as much of a shot as staying afloat as Michelle Wie has at playing in a Masters someday. Who knows, maybe she'll free-fall even further and be a headliner on the Pro Women's Victory Tour in 2009. That might keep it on life support a few extra tournaments.

My cynicism may be wrong though, because according to the press release, Andrea Sims (yes, the Andrea Sims) is behind the PR for the new tour, and she's named by Forbes as one of the "World's Hottest Party Planners". I suppose if my buddies and pass up on next year's rendevous in Miami for a weekend to check out the hot action on the Pro Women's Victory Tour, then I clearly underestimated it's appeal.
