PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- In less than two weeks, the 21st PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship will feature the largest field in the history of the National Championship. "The PGA Golf Club is very excited to have hosted the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship over the past 10 years," said Bud Taylor, PGA director of golf at The PGA Golf Club, which was recently rated in ZAGAT’s guide of "America’s Top Golf Courses" and by Golf Digest as one of the "75 Best Golf Courses in North America" for 2007-08. "We look forward to a very competitive tournament, and it is always a pleasure to host such a prestigious event."
The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will be contested on Tom Fazio’s newly renovated Ryder and Wanamaker Courses at The PGA Golf Club. The Ryder Course, formerly the North Course, is known for its rolling hills, majestic pine trees and challenging water hazards, and is sure to create exciting competition between the student-athletes. The Wanamaker Course, formerly the South Course, is set against a backdrop of wetlands, palm trees and palmettos and is considered one of Florida’s most beautiful courses.
Defending Division I individual medalist Kyle Tudi, of the University of Texas-Pan American, is looking forward to the competition. "Both our men’s and women’s teams love coming down to Port St. Lucie," said Tudi, a native of Phoenix. "It is by far the best-run tournament we attend each year, and the beautiful surroundings only add to its prestige."
The three-day event will consist of four divisions: Men’s Division I & II; and NAIA Men’s and Women’s. There is also an Individual Invitational for minority men and women contestants. In addition, a Business of Golf Career Expo, on May 10, 2007, will feature approximately 20 golf companies and associations that will present student athletes with an unique opportunity to learn more about employment within the golf industry.
