Golf Digest lists 10 Myrtle Beach courses as top public courses

Ten Grand Strand area courses were named to the 2007-2008 "America's Top 100 Greatest Public Courses" list in the May issue of Golf Digest. The Grand Strand placed more public golf courses on Golf Digest's list than any other golf destination or state in the country. Michigan was second with nine public courses while Hawaii came in third with seven courses.

At number 28, the Dunes Golf & Beach Club was the highest-ranking Myrtle Beach area course on the list. Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation was 41st followed by the Heritage Club at number 46. Barefoot Resort & Golf's Davis Love III course was ranked at number 53 while Rivers Edge Golf Club finished 62nd. Tiger's Eye Golf Links was 73rd while King's North at Myrtle Beach National returned to the "Top 100" list at number 76. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club was 86th while sister Mike Strantz course, True Blue Plantation, finished 87th. Barefoot Resort & Golf's Fazio course was listed at number 92.

"Placing 10 Grand Strand courses on Golf Digest's list of "Top 100 Public Golf Courses" reinforces our saying that "It Can Only Happen Here,'" said Bill Golden, vice president and director of marketing of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. "No other golf destination in the world has the quality and quantity of public golf courses that Myrtle Beach has to offer."

Established in 1966, Golf Digest's survey of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses remains the oldest and most respected golf course ranking. The rankings are based on extensive play and scrutiny of thousands of courses every two years by a panel of over 800 low handicap golfers with courses judged on various shot values, resistance to scoring, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning and ambience.
