Dec. 8, 2004 – Four European Tour Members, led by England’s Brian Davis and American Rob Rashell in first and second place, earned their US PGA Tour cards for the 2005 season after successfully progressing through the US PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament at La Quinta, California.
Davis, a winner of two tournaments on The European Tour International Schedule including the ANZ Championship earlier this year, earned top honours after a final round of 74 for a 17 under par total of 415 left him one clear of Rashell, one of only two Americans with Full Membership of The European Tour.
Another Englishman, Greg Owen, who missed three months of the season after undergoing an operation on his back earlier this year, finished joint fourth on 12 under par 420 after a closing 73 and Welsh Ryder Cup player Phillip Price also made it through in joint 13th place following a sixth round of 71 for a nine under par total of 423.
They were among 35 players who earned US PGA Tour cards after making it through six rounds on two courses at PGA West.
Davis had a six shot lead to start the final round and was one of the few who felt little pressure. Despite a double bogey on the par three 17th, he closed with a 74 to earn $50,000 in becoming the second successive European Tour Member to win the Qualifying School, following in the footsteps of Swede Mathias Grönberg.
