MAUI, Hawaii – Dec. 8, 2004 – Kaanapali Golf Courses – host of back-to-back U.S. Open Qualifiers – have announced the launch of its secure, easy-to-navigate online golf shop, located on the World Wide Web at www.kaanapali-golf.com.
Featuring the distinguished pro shop's most popular, eclectic, and branded products, shopping is made easy via the online golf shop’s virtual shopping cart and optional, personalized account settings. Just in time for the holiday season, items purchased up until Dec. 19 can be shipped in time for the Christmas.
The wide array of top-quality merchandise includes:
· Kaanapali logoed apparel and accessories for men, women and children
· Headwear, headcovers, and logoed towels, balls and other accessories
· Brand-name golf and leisure sportswear, and apparel
A gift certificate option is also available for those searching for the perfect holiday gift, but unsure of what to choose from Kaanapali’s wide selection of merchandise. Or, for the golfer who has everything, the online golf shop offers Kaanapali’s famous pineapple and palm tree novelty headcovers.
Now, golfers who visit Kaanapali and return to the mainland wishing they had bought an additional golf shirt, hat or divot tool can simply log on to www.kaanapali-golf.com/golfshop, complete their purchase in a matter of minutes, and receive their merchandise in seven to 10 days.
“We’ve had so many customers tell us that when they returned home, a friend or relative saw their Kaanapali gear and asked them where and how they could buy something similar,” says Ed Kageyama, General Manager at the Kaanapali Golf Courses and PGA of America Aloha Section President. “The online golf shop meets a demand that has been steadily building over the years and has come to a head recently with Kaanapali’s resurgence.”
Part of that resurgence includes Kaanapali’s selection as a host site for a U.S. Open Qualifier in 2005. For the second straight year, U.S. Open qualifying will be held at the Tournament North Course, where three players qualified for this year’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. The event, which takes place on May 21, will feature some of the best professional and amateur players from the region vying for entry into next year’s U.S Open, to be held June 13-19 in Pinehurst, N.C. at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club’s No. 2 course.
About Kaanapali Golf Courses
Kaanapali’s par-71 Tournament North Course opened in 1962 and is one of only two layouts in Hawaii designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. Measuring nearly 7,000 yards, the course stretches along the Maui coastline before winding its way to the scenic foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
The Tournament North Course boasts a rich history of hosting both professional and amateur golf tournaments. From 1987 to 2000, the Tournament North Course was traversed by professional golf legends Hale Irwin, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Lee Trevino and Tom Weiskopf as the host site of the Senior PGA Tour’s Kaanapali Classic. The course has hosted the LPGA’s Kemper Open, the Canada Cup, and Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf.
A 36-hole property, Kaanapali is also home to the highly-decorated Resort South Course. The 6,555-yard, par-71 layout has many holes running along natural canals, gulches and lava rock boundaries. The layout was redesigned in 1976 by architect Arthur Jack Snyder, who created a more forgiving golf course with subtle, undulating greens to craft an experience enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. In 1997, the Resort South Course was recognized as one of North America’s Top 175 “Women Friendly” Courses by Golf for Women magazine.
