Tim McDonald: Women in golf want equal service (and clean restrooms)

When I review a golf course, I will more often than not think about whether or not women would like it. If I'm paired with a female, I'll always ask her what she thinks of the course, and why she likes or dislikes it. I'll usually include it in the review.

I do this because a course men may like may not be a course women would necessarily like. Women want different things from their golf experience.

The Executive Women's Golf Association is going to help me out. The group has come up with a program whereby courses can earn special "women-friendly" designations.

It's a big deal because, as golf industry execs keep telling us, women are one of the fastest growing segments in the game.

Here are some of the criteria:

1: Having at least two sets of tees rated for women.

2: Distance markers inside of 100 yards.

3: Clean restrooms available at least every six holes.

4: Providing equal services to men and women.
