Wellstone Communities Junior at Craig Ranch announces results

McKINNEY, Texas -- Rolex Junior All-American Cody Gribble of Dallas shot a 5-under-par 67 for an 11-under-par 205 tournament total in the final round to win the Boys Division of the Wellstone Communities Junior at Craig Ranch. In the Girls Division, fellow Rolex Junior All-American Rachel Morris carded a 3-under-par 69 for a 2-over-par 218 tournament total to earn the victory by four strokes at TPC Craig Ranch.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Wellstone Communities Junior at Craig Ranch is a 54-hole stroke play event held at TPC Craig Ranch. The 72-player field featured players from 15 states, Australia and Canada. The Girls Division played TPC Craig Ranch at 6,076 yards, while the Boys Division is played from 7,000 yards.

Gribble went wire-to-wire to take home his first trophy of the season Sunday. After stepping into the final round with a seven-stroke lead, Gribble stayed consistent to take the win by eight shots. Gribble hit 16 greens to achieve his tournament-best six birdies.

“I have been working on my putting a lot,” said Gribble. “I had a lesson this past week on it. It’s starting to show up and starting to pay off.”

Patrick Reed of Baton Rouge, La., seized second place in the Boys Division after shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the final round for a tournament total of 213. Josh Jones of The Colony, Texas, followed with a third-place finish at 217. Austyn Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz., shot a 218 to take fourth place, while Andrew Yun of Tacoma, Wash., carded a 219 for the fifth spot.

In the Girls Division, Morris improved her first and second round scores by five and six strokes, respectively. Morris, who started out the 2007 season strong with a tie for second place at the ReBath Heather Farr Classic over Easter Weekend, made three birdies in the final round on the way to her third-ever AJGA victory.

“My putting was solid,” said Morris. “I didn’t have any bogies, so that was good. My chipping was good. I had a lot of chances for birdies and that made it a lot easier.”

Megan Grehan of Mamaroneck, N.Y., finished four strokes behind with a 222 tournament total to grab second place. Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, maintained her position in third place and ended the tournament with a 223.
