Southworth Development announces three contracts in Scotland

Southworth Development is pleased to announce the signing of three new long-term management contracts in Scotland, through its new Southworth Europe Limited subsidiary.

The first contract is to manage a new 18-hole oceanfront links course designed by world-renowned golf architect and Scotsman David McLay Kidd of Bandon Dunes fame. Machrihanish Dunes will be the first championship links course built in Scotland on a Site of Special Scientific interest (SSSi) in over 100 years. Initially upon hearing of the development at Machrihanish Dunes, Golfweek writer Martin Kaufmann wrote in his 12/9/06 article, "In recent months, I've been telling anyone within earshot: Whatever you do, get yourself to Machrihanish. And soon I hope to add: Stay a few days to enjoy the new links as well." The course is slated to open Spring/Summer 2008.

The second is the management of the famed Royal Hotel in Campbeltown, Scotland. Located on Campbeltown Harbour, The Royal Hotel will be renovated to include 21 rooms, three 2-level flats and The Kintyre Grille, featuring fine steaks and seafood. The Hotel has long been known for its views of Campbeltown Harbour as well as for having been hit by an errant submarine missile during World War II. The Hotel is scheduled to reopen early 2008 just prior to the opening of Machrihanish Dunes.

Finally, Southworth will also take over the management of The Ugadale Hotel, located in Machrihanish. The Ugadale, which sits adjacent to the Old Tom Morris-designed Machrihanish Golf Club, will close for extensive renovations and will reopen as a 100-room waterfront condo hotel.
