Georgia's Harbor Club on Lake Oconee honored in Golfweek magazine

LAKE OCONEE, Ga. -- By all measures, 2014 has been a milestone year for Harbor Club on Lake Oconee, culminating recently with the earning of a national ranking as a "Best Residential Golf Course" by Golfweek magazine.

Harbor Club opened its milestone year by completing a comprehensive enhancement of amenities and infrastructure that touched every aspect of the community, including the golf course, clubhouse, swim and tennis, landscaping, street signage and even new mailboxes for every residence.

In March, Harbor Club unveiled the re-imagining of its corporate identification and communications package that included a new logo, website, advertising, signage and more. The logo offers a warm, natural color palette of forest green and cinnamon, and depicts a stylized pinecone, a nod to the sentinel loblolly pine trees that frame life throughout the community.

Weeks later, Harbor Club recorded an astonishing 55 new property sales over a single weekend through an offering of newly released homesites in the community's Pine Lake neighborhood, framed by a sparkling mile-long inlet of Lake Oconee.

The homesites offered a variety of views, including the community's golf course, Pine Lake Park, woodland gardens, six ponds, plus seven special properties offering both lake and pond views, each with assigned boat slips.

In May, Harbor Club unveiled a spacious new waterfront model home in the Pine Lake neighborhood. The 3,000+ sq. ft. residence overlooks a tranquil pond, and its versatile 3-bedroom plan can accommodate a growing family or empty nesters who might enjoy family or entertaining.

Just in time for the 4th of July, the community held the grand opening of The Boathouse at Harbor Club, a comprehensive renovation of the vintage old Granite Shoals Marina on Lake Oconee.

The Boathouse features a fully stocked general store and a full-service restaurant called Smoke on the Water, specializing in Bar-B-Q that is smoked on the premises. For boating and water sports enthusiasts, The Boathouse features a boat ramp, community dock, marine fuel pumps, pontoon boat, jet ski and kayak rentals.

In the months ahead Harbor Club will complete construction at The Boathouse of 120 stacked, covered, dry storage spaces for the boats of Harbor Club property owners and surrounding residents. More storage can be modularly added as demand warrants.

With the holidays just around the corner, Harbor Club punctuates its milestone year with news that its stunning lakefront golf course has been recognized among the "Best Residential Courses" in the United States, according to Golfweek magazine's annual ranking.

Harbor Club's sweeping lakefront design was the first offering on the east coast from the esteemed architectural partnership of Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish back in 1991. The golf course touches the shoreline of Lake Oconee, Georgia's second largest lake, six different times, while also skirting four creeks and a number of interior ponds.

Golfweek's eclectic ranking panel consists of 675 voters from seven countries. They rely on 10 criteria to rate a golf course, including overall land plan, variety and memorability of golf holes, conditioning and ecology, and the "Walk in the park test", which rates the sense of the course as worthy of spending four hours on it.

Other amenities at Harbor Club include an outdoor Swim and Tennis facility with junior Olympic swimming pool and double lighted tennis courts. The 15,000 sq. ft. clubhouse offers full-service dining, a fully stocked golf shop, men's and women's locker rooms and a fitness center.
