Dec. 13, 2004 – Iron Bridge Golf Club in Glenwood Springs, Colo., joins three other courses designed by Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates – Bay Harbor Golf Club in Michigan, Longaberger Golf Club in Ohio, and the Links of Lighthouse Sound in Maryland – on Golf Magazine's list of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play."
Ranked No. 63 by the magazine, Iron Bridge was designed by Hills and Chris Wilczynski, senior partner at Hills/Forrest. The course, which officially opened in July 2003, measures 7,150 yards from the tips. The front nine meanders along the Roaring Fork River before climbing into the foothills of Mt. Sopris, which looms over holes 10 through 13 (see photo).
Wilczynski says of that stretch of holes on the private course: "It was remarkable how we were able to fit holes 10 through 13 into such a picturesque landscape. The holes just fit into place like a puzzle as we were working through the course routing during the early conceptual stages. The real test was building them, and Wadsworth Golf Construction did a wonderful job in assisting us realize our vision not only for these holes but for the entire course. The result is something very special."
Iron Bridge recently announced a relationship with the nearby St. Regis Aspen Resort. The arrangement allows hotel guests to play one of the area’s premier golf courses during their stay. Hills said that "the complete experience of staying at the St. Regis, coupled with a round at Iron Bridge, is one of the luxuries of life and should be part of ones travel plans in the near future."
