California's Grizzly Ranch Golf Club set to open for 2014 season

PORTOLA, Calif. -- Grizzly Ranch Golf Club, the number one ranked public course in the Sierra Nevada and number 11 ranked for public access courses in all of California, is set to open the 2014 golf season on Friday, April 25. Once known mostly for its impeccable conditions, fair yet challenging greens, western flair and ranch style charm, the course is now ranked alongside some of the finest and most prestigious public courses in California. (Golf Digest rankings)

"What a great way to start the 2014 season knowing that Golf Digest ranked us with some of the best courses in California like Pebble Beach and Spyglass," said Van Batchelder, director of golf, Grizzly Ranch Golf Club. "We're only a 45 minute drive from both Reno and Truckee, and both towns offer airports for those who fly either commercial or private jets. The course and its natural surroundings are worth the short journey."

In late 2012 the golf club welcomed new owners, all of whom are Grizzly Ranch property owners. They are dedicated to the enhancement of Grizzly Ranch Golf Club and the club's overall inviting and relaxing mountain feel. The new owners' passions for the enrichment of the club lead to a spring 2013 opening of the Grizzly Ranch Lake House. For the first time in five years, the Lake House started offering daily lunch service, a full bar menu, beer on tap and seating at the "sunken" bar. Overlooking the 18th fairway, it invites guests to indoor seating or an open air terrace.

Nestled where the Sierra Nevada Range and Sierra Valley meet, Grizzly Ranch is surrounded by more than a million acres of pristine national and state forests. This is mountain golf as it should be offering soaring mountain views, a moderate climate and an overall sense of serenity. The occasional bald eagle may be seen on the course among other wildlife like deer and osprey.
