Course grassed with Zeon Zoysia named NGCOA 2014 Golf Course of the Year

The Clubs at Cordillera Ranch, a golf course grassed with drought-tolerant Zeon Zoysia grass on every surface except the greens, was recently named 2014 Golf Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association. The award honors an association member course demonstrating excellence in course quality, ownership and management, contributions to its community and to the game.

Located bout 40 minutes north of San Antonio, The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch is a Jack Nicklaus design that winds its way over 780 acres of rugged landscape. Cordillera opened in May 2007 and has taken a consistent position among the state's top-ranked courses. The routing for the 7,450-yard course embraces the rugged beauty of the Hill Country while carefully sidestepping native grasses and vegetation.

"The course developers selected Zeon Zoysiagrass for its playing surfaces to create not only a beautiful, highly playable golf course but also to keep in mind the high incidence of drought in the area. Zeon Zoysia met their requirements," says David Doguet, Zeon Zoysia turfgrass breeder and owner of Bladerunner Farms of Poteet, Texas. "I am thrilled to hear that the course, and thereby the grass, has received this honor."

The par 3 sixteenth at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, which requires a skillful shot to a green framed by cascading waterfalls, has been ranked the most beautiful hole in Texas for five straight years.

In addition to golf, The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch also offers members clubs focused on tennis, swimming, equestrian, fishing and hunting. Cordillera Ranch connects with its community north of San Antonio with a celebrity tournament that raises money for mortgage-free homes to military personnel.
