Veteran golf writer Mike Bailey honored by Southern Texas PGA Section

BRYAN, Texas -- Mike Bailey, senior staff writer for Golf Channel's network of travel/golf Web sites, was among the award winners announced Monday Feb. 17 at the Southern Texas PGA Section's Annual Meeting and Awards dinner held at Miramont Country Club near College Station.

Bailey, who lives in Houston, won the section's 2013 Media/Public Relations Award, given annually to a member of the print, broadcast or public relations media for "significant contributions in the areas of promotion and public awareness that have helped to elevate the status of PGA Professionals and the Southern Texas Section of the PGA."

Bailey, who was also honored by the section in 2001, has been covering golf for more than 20 years. Prior to his current position, he served on the staffs of the Golfweek Group, PGA Magazine and the Houston Chronicle. He currently writes about golf and travel destinations throughout North America and sometimes overseas.

The award was one of 20 given by the Southern Texas PGA Section Monday night, culminating with the Golf Professional of the Year, which was awarded to Gordon Johnson of Houston Country Club.
