Lonard returns to top 50 in Official World Golf Ranking

Dec. 1, 2004 – Defending champion Peter Lonard finished strongly and retained the Hillross Australian Open title at the Australian Golf Club in Sydney. Lonard shot a final-round 3-under-par 68 which was enough to give him a one-shot win over Stuart Appleby. Peter has climbed back into the top 50, a jump of 20 places to 45th position.

Stephen Dodd picked up his first European Tour victory as he held off the challenge of Thomas Bjorn to win the Volvo China Open, an Asian Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned event, at Shanghai Silport Golf Club in China. Stephen climbs from No. 229 to the 167th position.

David Smail from New Zealand won the Casio World Open at Ibusuki Golf Club on the Japan Golf Tour finishing one stroke clear of American Hunter Mahan. Smail is now in 110th place in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Rafael Gomez won the 47th Abierto Mexicano de Golf in Mexico City, an event co-sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas and the European Challenge Tour. Gomez breaks into the top 500 at No. 493.
