FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. -- That sound heard in Edwin Watts Golf stores across the U.S. is that of golfers trying out the new “Geometry Driven” drivers, including two new “Square” drivers. Initial sales and response to the new clubs has been very high according to stores managers.
“We’ve had great reaction to the new drivers, even selling out of several brands within one to two days of their release,” said Sven Kessler, National Retail Director for Edwin Watts Golf. “You know when someone is in the hitting room with the new square drivers. The ball sounds like it’s been shot out of a cannon. Everybody is going to want to try these clubs.”
The first square driver release was the Nike Sumo2 in early February, followed by the Callaway FT-i. In addition, the “Geometry Driven” drivers released include the Nike Sumo, the Callaway FT-5 and the Adams BUL (Big, Ugly, Long). Taylor Made released their new Superquad driver in late February.
“The Geometry Driven drivers offer what’s referred to as a ‘High Moment of Inertia,’ (MOI) continued Kessler. “What that means is there is increased ball speed on off-center hits, and the ball goes straighter. Bottom line, the club is more forgiving on imperfect swings.”
“The high MOI driver is one of the great, new innovations in golf equipment for 2007,” said Edwin Watts, president and co-founder of Edwin Watts Golf. “We have a lot of new equipment, including drivers, irons and balls that are really exciting our customers. It’s going to be a fun season.”
