OMEGA brand ambassador and former number 1, Rory McIlroy, will play in a high-profile exhibition match in China for the second straight year against Tiger Woods, the world's current top-ranked golfer. They will play on Mission Hills' highly acclaimed par-73 Blackstone Course, set amidst spectacular black volcanic lava rock at Mission Hills Haikou Resort on China's southernmost island.
Dubbed "The Match at Mission Hills", the competition, which takes place on October 28, will mark the second straight year Woods and McIlroy have competed in a head to head challenge in China.
Last year, McIlroy edged Woods at Jinsha Lake by a stroke. Both players were impressive and the Northern Irishman's 18-hole score of 67 was just enough to defeat Woods, who carded a 68.
Having won five tournaments in 2013, Tiger Woods would seem to have momentum on his side. He was also named PGA Player of the Year. Rory McIlroy didn't capture any titles this year but says, "Tiger has played the better golf this year, but I feel like I'm getting my game back again and I enjoy any challenge, especially against Tiger, so I'm ready for another showdown."
Tiger Woods is also looking forward to the rematch, saying, "I'm hoping to win this time. We both played well last year, but Rory got me by one. I've had a really good year on the PGA Tour, so it would be nice to earn another trophy in China." He added, "We had a lot of fun last year and I'm expecting the same again this time in Hainan."
OMEGA is looking forward to its role as Official Timekeeper at The Match in Mission Hills. The brand has a significant presence in international golf.
