STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania – Dec. 1, 2004 – The forecast for the greater Allentown area in the next 10 days is bleak – temps mostly in the 40s with rain and even a chance of snow – especially for golfers. That is, for all golfers except one.
Parfection Greens and Sports Surfaces, the official SofTrak Synthetic Putting Greens dealership for western and central Pennsylvania, has announced it has installed an indoor golf green for an Allentown homeowner who had it built in his basement.
The 400-square-foot green slopes up from the front enabling the gentleman owner, who wishes to maintain his privacy, to practice uphill and downhill putts. He can even hit chip shots onto the green thanks to a sand-like base underneath the putting surface.
“I’ve extremely pleased with how the SofTrak green turned out,” said the owner. “It allows me to put off the end of golf season, improve my short game and have fun with my family and friends during the long, winter months.”
“People are increasingly turning their houses into home entertainment venues,” says Joe Arena, Principal of Parfection Greens and Sports Surfaces. “Whether it’s a pool and SofTrak green outside or an indoor green and multi-purpose flooring surface, they want to stay home and enjoy their lives and be active.”
It’s not just homeowners that are turning to home entertainment in the form of SofTrak Synthetic Putting Greens. Arena recently built an outdoor SofTrak green for MiniTab, Inc., a software company. Featuring undulations, nine cups, a bunker and two teeing areas, the green closely simulates the look and feel of natural grass. The same high-performance, low-maintenance SofTrak synthetic turf is owned and used by PGA Tour pros Fred Couples and Steve Flesch, as well as Champions Tour player Bruce Lietzke.
The green has been such a hit with the company's 160 employees and their families that an inter-office, par-3 league was established last summer, with putters and golf balls are on-hand so that employees can refine their strokes.
