LAREDO, Texas -- The new clubhouse at the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course was unveiled yesterday by City of Laredo, Texas officials and special guest, Hall of Fame golfer Nancy Lopez. The celebration took place overlooking the Rio Grande which serves as a dramatic backdrop to the spectacular Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course known as The MAX.
"Our project of four years is now completed and we open our hearts and our doors to the world to come and enjoy golf at The MAX," said Mayor Raul G. Salinas. "The MAX is a full-service golf facility and a fitting venue for special events and tournaments. A world-class golf course and state-of-the art clubhouse is the pride of the City of Laredo. Golf in south Texas has never looked this good."
Nancy Lopez conducted a putting clinic for area youth and played the golf course with close to 200 guests who attended the special celebration. In honor of Nancy, a commemorative scholarship was announced that will benefit a deserving high school student athlete playing golf at an area school.
