Princeville's Makai Golf Club in Hawaii offers EZeeGolf for all

PRINCEVILLE, Kauai, Hawaii -- So…you want to join your spouse or friends for a round of golf on one of Hawaii's famed courses, but you've never lifted a club before? Princeville's acclaimed Makai Golf Club, located on Kauai's scenic north shore, has the answer for you. The Makai -- one of the top-ranked courses in the U.S. -- is the first and only course in Hawaii to offer EZeeGolf, a revolutionary and unconventional new method that allows non-golfers to enjoy a golf course experience. Using a specially designed EZeeGolf club, a player determines the yardage (from 50 to 225 yards), lines up the shot, pulls the trigger, and the ball is struck by the club without the player having to swing.

EZeeGolf is not traditional golf, but provides a great introduction for anyone who does not (or is unable to) play the traditional and more challenging game. It is ideal for non-golfers and people with physical limitations who want to experience the fun and beauty of a golf course. The Makai Course is extraordinarily beautiful and was named one of the Top 5 Great Golf Settings in the U.S. by National Geographic Traveler.

"Golf is a game of skill and can be intimidating for many people," says Tom Freestone, Assistant Golf Professional at Makai Golf Club. "EZeeGolf is not meant to replace true golf but offers a non-traditional way to get out there and experience the spectacular beauty of our course. Now there's no reason to be left behind when your friends are out playing golf. The pace is monitored so EZee Golfers can move right along with traditional golfers on the course." Freestone notes that EZeeGolf provides a positive first-time on-course experience, inspiring many people to continue on to learn the traditional game of golf. The EZeeGolf program at the Makai Golf Club begins with a 45-minute introduction to golf including instruction on short game techniques and the EZeeGolf technology. Guests then play 9 holes on the Makai Course, accompanied by a caddie (1 caddie for every 3 players) who makes the learning process easier. Players utilize the EZeeGolf club for long shots and traditional clubs (irons, wedges, and putters) for short shots, such as putting and chipping. All necessary clubs are provided. The caddie guides players throughout the 9 holes, assisting with clubs and providing instruction on the EZeeGolf method, short game, how to drive the golf cart, and basic golf etiquette, rules, and traditions. Cost is $200 per player.

A private, personalized EZeeGolf experience can be arranged for those who want individual instruction or want to accompany a golfing companion on 9 or 18 holes. Contact the course for fees and an appointment. EZeeGolf is also well suited for small groups visiting Kauai who are interested in offering unique activities to their members, both golfers and non-golfers alike. Group prices are available for nine and 18-hole rounds, as well as EZeeGolf scramble tournaments.

EZeeGolfers must be 18 years or older, but Makai Golf Club offers an exceptional traditional golf program for junior golfers through the Troon Family Golf program. Contact the course for more information on its junior golf opportunities.

Makai Golf Club hosts "EZee Mondays" every Monday at 3:30 p.m., a program designed as an introduction for non-golfers and novice golfers to gain confidence and for experienced golfers to enjoy a few holes with non-golfing friends and family members. The program starts with a short game clinic and EZeeGolf orientation, then guests play three holes, with various contests offered for fun and incentive. Cost is $99 per player, for both EZeeGolfers and traditional golfers (rental clubs are included for golfers, if needed.)

Every Sunday, Makai Golf Club offers a free one-hour Introduction to Golf clinic that provides instruction on putting, chipping, golf etiquette and rules, as well as a demonstration of EZeeGolf. This clinic starts at 11 a.m. and is hosted by Makai's PGA Professionals.

The 27-hole Makai Golf Club at Princeville, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design, features two uniquely individual courses: the magnificent 18-hole Makai Course, incorporating serene lakes and stunning ocean coastline; and the leisurely 9-hole Woods Course, winding through native woodlands against a backdrop of lush mountain views. The Makai Course recently underwent a comprehensive 14-month renovation, reopening in early 2010 to rave reviews for its immaculate condition and playability. The course is currently ranked by Golf Digest as one of "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses" and by GOLF Magazine and Golfweek as one of the top 5 public courses in Hawaii. The Makai Golf Club is managed by Troon Golf.
