CARLSBAD, Calif. -- The runner-up at the 142nd Open Championship utilized Nippon Shaft products in his irons and was the only player in the field to shoot even par over four rounds at Muirfield.
Nine other players also utilized Nippon Shafts in their irons, and four used Nippon Shaft in their utility or hybrid clubs.
The 37-year-old Swede used the N.S. PRO MODUS" Tour 120 X flex shafts in his TaylorMade irons to shoot 70-70-74-70-284 at one of the more challenging venues on the Open Championship rota. He hit 80 percent of his fairways and 79 percent of his greens in regulation en route to finishing three strokes behind the champion. The Open was his fourth top 10 finish in 12 starts this season on the PGA TOUR. He tied for fifth at the PLAYERS Championship and was second at the Shell Houston Open.
In addition to the Swede, two other players utilized Tour 120 shafts from Nippon Shaft. Three more used the N.S. PRO MODUS" Tour 130 shafts in their irons. Two contestants used N.S. PRO MODUS" PROTOTYPE 980ST X shafts and one used N.S. PRO 950GH shafts.
