Inaugural Jack Nicklaus Academy Cup in Qingdao, China a success

The inaugural Jack Nicklaus Academy Cup was held at the TenTimes Golf and Hot Springs Resort in Qingdao, China over June 27-29, 2013. The event included a Media Day and Golf Clinic on Thursday, the 27th. Over 30 individuals covered the event from a combination of local, regional and national media outlets. In addition to the press conference, a clinic from Certified Nicklaus Academy Instructors from Japan, Korea, Guam and China was presented to the media followed by a lunch at the new Blue Fountain Clubhouse.

The Jack Nicklaus Academy Clinics held over the three days were led by Todd Baker; Director of Instruction for the new Nicklaus Academy at LeoPalace Resort Guam, with support from fellow Academy staff members Dustin Simons; Operations Manager and Instructor, and Nathan Kang; Instructor most recently based in Seoul, South Korea. Certified Nicklaus Academy professionals from Japan, Korea and China also participated in the Pro-Am portion of the event and the awards ceremony.

On Friday, June 28, over 100 players participated in the 1st Annual Jack Nicklaus Academy Pro-Am. 27 professionals from China, Korea, Guam and Japan played with their amateur partners. Members of the Shandong Provincial Golf Team that call the Nicklaus Academy at TenTimes their official training center were included in the field of playing professionals. A gala dinner and awards ceremony was held that evening at the TenTimes Clubhouse. Live entertainment; a multi-media presentation; speeches from Chairman Wang of TianTai Real Estate Corporation, David Kurniawan, CEO of CHS Management, and Ted Simons, Executive VP/COO for Nicklaus Academies; and awards were presented to the top individuals and teams from the tournament play. The highlight of the evening was a videotaped welcome from Mr. Jack Nicklaus.

Professionals from various Jack Nicklaus Academy locations in Japan, Korea, China and the newest Nicklaus Academy at LeoPalace Resort on the island of Guam participated in the various clinics as well as the Pro-Am. A hands-on discussion covering a variety of coaching techniques was held at the Jack Nicklaus Coaching Studio on Saturday, June 28th and provided for a great platform for the instructors to exchange ideas and concepts that they use in each of their various markets.

The 2nd Annual Jack Nicklaus Academy Cup is tentatively scheduled to be held during the summer of 2014 at Nayar Vidanta in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.
