AJGA Wyndham Cup rosters bringing together top junior golfers

BRASELTON, Ga. -- The Wyndham Cup rosters are taking form as 36 players from 14 states have committed to represent the East or West at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, July 15-18. The final four spots will be filled through the Polo Golf Rankings after the Rolex Tournament of Champions at Lancaster Country Club, July 8-12.

The AJGA Wyndham Cup brings together 40 of the nation's top juniors in an East-versus-West team match play tournament. With the Mississippi River as the border that separates East from West, 10 boys and 10 girls from each side are selected based on the Polo Golf Rankings, which reward top finishes in national junior golf events.

Alison Lee is No. 1 in the Polo Golf Rankings and leads the West in qualifying points en route to her third Wyndham Cup. She has two victories in as many starts for 2013 after capturing her third AJGA Invitational win at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior. At the Mission Hills Country Club - Dinah Shore Tournament Course, Lee tied the girls AJGA record for lowest 18-hole round with a 9-under-par 63

At Nos. 2 and 3 in the Polo Golf Rankings, respectively, Brad Dalke and Scott Scheffler will make their third Wyndham Cup appearances in 2013. With a 3-3-2 record, Dalke will help the West Team in their quest to reclaim the Cup after winning the HP Boys championship at Carlton Woods. Scheffler leads the current West Team with a 4-3-1 record and has posted two runner-up finishes in 2013, including the HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods and the Thunderbird International Junior. He also had a runner-up finish at the 2012 Polo Golf Junior Classic.

Andrea Lee will compete in her second Wyndham Cup after earning her first berth in 2012 as the youngest player in the field. Lee proved to be a key player for the West Team as she went 3-1-0 in her Wyndham Cup debut. She has posted five top-10 finishes in national competition in 2013, including a fourth-place showing at the Thunderbird International Junior.

The East Team will be led by two of the last four champions of the Polo Golf Junior Classic, the AJGA's only other annual match play event. Adam Wood won the 2012 Polo Golf Junior Classic and will return for his second Wyndham Cup after going 2-2-0 that same year. AJGA Player Representative Nicole Morales claimed the 2011 Polo Golf Junior Classic and went on to win her second AJGA Invitational at the 2013 Thunderbird International Junior. She will also return for her second Wyndham Cup.

In all, the East Team's current 18-player roster has a combined five years of Wyndham Cup experience. Tae Wan Lee leads the 2013 squad with a 4-0-0 record in his debut at the 2012 Wyndham Cup. Sierra Brooks is also coming back for more after earning her first Wyndham Cup berth in 2012 and opening with a 3-1-0 record.

Jorge Garcia will join the East Team for his Wyndham Cup debut. Garcia earned a berth into the match play competition after winning the Puerto Rico Junior Open sponsored by Sport Link and the Thunderbird International Junior. The rising junior also tied for second at the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Sean O'Hair.

For both the East and West Teams, the top-nine boys and top-nine girls earned invitations based on the Polo Golf Rankings as of June 18, 2013. The final boys and girls spots on each team will be awarded after the 2013 Rolex Tournament of Champions.

In 2012, the East Team retained the Cup after reclaiming it for the first time since 2004, as it tied the West, 25-25, at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla. The West holds a 12-9-2 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 1990.
