The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame inducts Lapointe and Rubenstein

The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and the Royal Canadian Golf Association have named Mary Ann Lapointe (Hayward) and Lorne Rubenstein as 2007 inductees into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

With their inductions, Lapointe and Rubenstein become the 60th and 61st members of the hall.

"The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame seeks to recognize excellence as golfers, contributors and supporters of the game," said Karen Hewson, hall director. "Mary Ann and Lorne and have each amassed their own unique golf related legacies and are both fine examples of what makes golf the game it is."

Lapointe distinguished herself as one of North America's top female amateur golfers. She is a four-time Canadian Amateur champion, a six-time winner of the Quebec Amateur Championship, a five-time Ontario Amateur champion and a 12-time winner of the Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship. In 2005, she became the first Canadian to win the US Mid-Amateur title.

For nearly 30 years, Rubenstein has been chronicling the game of golf in Canada and around the world. Renowned as one of his country's pre-eminent golf journalists, he has written a weekly column in the Globe and Mail since 1980, appeared in every major golf publication in Canada and abroad. He has authored a number of best-selling books, hosted television shows and offered commentary on radio. He also spent time as a curator for the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum, was the first editor of SCORE Golf magazine, caddied on the PGA Tour and has written a number of golf club histories.
