ORLANDO, Fla. -- Golf Channel, NBC and Comcast are teaming up to host golf-hungry Philadelphians at Xfinity Live! for an ultimate, two-day U.S. Open experience, June 14 and 15, designed to capture all the excitement of the U.S. Open with a little something extra.
With this year’s U.S. Open Championship, June 13-16, competed at nearby Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, fans looking for fun activities surrounding the U.S. Open are being encouraged to come downtown for this free two-day event, which will feature a U.S. Open Happy Hour on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and a family-friendly event on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2p.m.
On Friday (4-8 p.m.), fans can meet Golf Channel personalities and enjoy a favorite beverage while watching all the U.S. Open action on the hundreds of screens located throughout Xfinity Live! They also can try a swing at Merion’s famed 16th hole on a golf simulator for a chance at free golf for a year, courtesy of Golf Channel’s GolfNow tee-time service; or join the Golf Channel Social Lounge (www.GolfChannel.com/SocialLounge), interacting with all the conversation surrounding the U.S. Open on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as trending players and polls. The conversation will be displayed on multiple TV screens throughout the facility and fans will be encouraged to tweet to win prizes throughout the night. Interactive photo kiosks also will be in place where fans can get their photos taken in front of iconic backdrops at Merion and share them socially.
With Father’s Day in mind, Saturday’s event (10 a.m.-2p.m.) is designed for families and Dads. Kids can practice their putting skills, eat free hot dogs and ice cream and, in anticipation of Universal Pictures’ July 3 release of Despicable Me 2, say hello to the popular Minions characters. They also can create their own Father’s Day cards while Moms and Dads can feast from on-site food trucks.
Xfinity Live! Philadelphia is a dining and entertainment district in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Admission and parking in the Xfinity Live lot are free for each event.
