ORLANDO, Fla. -- At any given moment from morning to night at the 2007 PGA Merchandise Show, a crowd of golf professionals, media, and buyers waited patiently to “get their feet on straight.” The reason for the buzz: exuberant word of mouth on a new system that improves lower leg alignment to provide the balance and stability necessary for golf performance.
“Great golf requires a stable base,” said Derek Carroll, president of ALINE Systems, Inc., “We’ve created a very simple system—the ALINER—that allows golfers to see alignment problems in their feet, ankles and lower legs. And we’ve developed a highly engineer yet simple product –BFAST Suspension Insoles—that let the body optimize alignment in a natural way.”
Apparently, PGA attendees were in agreement. The booth, done up as a simple, black-carpeted performance stage, allowed ALINE techs to demonstrate the remarkable before-and-after results of the ALINE process—which uses a red laser to tell an undeniable story about each golfer’s alignment needs. Representatives from major training academies and clubs left the booth talking excitedly about the break though, and quickly sent their associates and buyers back to be fitted. At times, the wait was over one hour.
“This weekend we fitted numerous LPGA tour players, professional long drivers, you name it,” said Keith Orr, designer of the ALINE system, “In every case, they tried the product and sent their friends. The word of mouth is just spectacular.”
Phyllis Meti agreed. The 2006 World Long Drive champion began using ALINE insoles last fall, and claims that they’ve helped both her swing and her lower back pain. Meti brought a contingent of her New Zealand compatriots to the booth throughout the show.
Media from outlets including Fox Sports Network, The Golf Channel, Golf Tips, Golf Magazine also spent time at the booth creating segments on the ALINE system and the surrounding hubbub.
“I can’t remember ever seeing this kind of response to a new product at the PGA Show, said Molly Mead, public relations and marketing specialist, “I couldn’t believe the level of interest.”
Gordon Hay, the biomechanics and orthotics expert who invented the ALINE system, gave demonstrations to the waiting crowd, showing how the “suspension system” unlocks potential by allowing crooked ankles to straighten and fallen arches to rise. According to Hay one of the most overlooked aspects of peak athletic function is foot and ankle alignment. Achieving optimal
Alignment —and maintaining it during athletic performance--allows great leaps in power and accuracy. By supporting the foot properly, every golfer can maximize stability and power transfer in a swing.
“If your foot moves just a few millimeters during a swing, you compromise all of the great biomechanics that are necessary for success,” says Hay, “and if walk onto the course with poor ankle and knee alignment, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage before you even tee up.”
The ALINEr experience is free at retail. The BFAST foot suspension system costs $50 and can be transferred into any rigid footwear you choose.
Located in Marblehead, MA, ALINE is a technology and intellectual property company focused on improving the sports performance and enjoyment of its customers.
