Candice Combs, CGCS at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South), hosted three rounds of last week's Buick Invitational. Next year, in addition to the Buick, Combs will become the first female golf course superintendent to host a major championship when the U.S. Open comes to San Diego.
In response, Sports Illustrated writer Jeff Silverman has written an article that focuses on women in the industry and in addition to Combs, he talked to fellow female superintendents Patty Reedy, Andrea Bakalyar and Nancy Dickens, CGCS. Others quoted in the story include former GCSAA presidents Mark Woodward, CGCS, who is Combs' supervisor and Bruce Williams, CGCS, who hired Reedy at Los Angeles Country Club.
