Flurry of activity at Heydon Grange Golf & Country Club

Nov. 26, 2004 – Last weekend saw a flurry of activity at Heydon Grange Golf & Country Club with many of the men seeking to progress through the first round of the winter knockout competition on a cold wintry Saturday morning.

Sunday morning was even colder as the men paired up with partners of their choice to compete for the Blenheim Bowl, the first of the board trophies following the season's presentation evening. Clear leaders after the first 9 holes were Vice-Captain David Moses and his partner David Gaillard but they were unable to maintain their momentum as an icy drizzle descended during the back 9 holes and could only finish joint third in this tough foursomes competition.

Undeterred by the weather Mel Marks and Tony Radford made up their deficiency from the front 9 to overtake the field and finish clear leaders to step up and collect the trophy from Club Captain Peter Pirie.

Earlier in the week the club's Annual General Meeting had confirmed the election of David Moses and Elaine Knobel-Forbes as next year's Club and Lady Captain. They are now working with their respective committees to finalize plans for an exciting and challenging program for their golfing year which commences with the Captains' Drive-In on Sunday 6th March.

The highlights of next year's program will include the return of the Sky televised PGA Europro tournament between the 7th - 11th June followed by a Gala Open Day organised by the members that will be played over the course as set out for the Europro Tour event. This is scheduled to take place on the 2nd July and will include cash prizes in the region of £200 for the scratch winner and £100 in vouchers for the net winner - there will also be similar prizes for ladies and mixed competitions. Sponsors are being sought to provide a prize for a different challenge on each of the 18 holes.
