FAR HILLS, N.J. -- Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, N.Y., has been selected by the United States Golf Association as the site of the 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. The dates of the championship are Sept. 25-30.

Designed by <?xml:namespace prefix = st2 ns = "urn:schemas:contacts" />Rees Jones and opened in 1992, Atlantic will be hosting its second USGA Championship. Previously, the club was the site of the 1997 USGA Senior Amateur Championship, won by Cliff Cunningham. The links-style course features rolling terrain created by a glacier that formed two deep ponds.

The second course that will be used for stroke play during the first two days is The Bridge in Bridgehampton, N.Y. The Bridge was also designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2002.

Atlantic has also hosted the 1995 Metropolitan Open and 1995 Leslie Cup; the 2000 French-American Golf Challenge; the 2003 Metropolitan PGA Championship; and 2006 U.S. Open local qualifying.

The U.S. Mid-Amateur is making its first stop in the state of New York, which has hosted 64 previous USGA championships.

It is with great pride that Atlantic will host the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2010"

Prior to 2010, the U.S. Mid-Amateur will be played at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore, from Sept. 29-Oct. 4, 2007; at Milwaukee Country Club in River Hills, Wis., from Sept. 6-11, 2008; and at Kiawah Island Club in Kiawah Island, S.C., from Oct. 3-8, 2009.

The U.S. Mid-Amateur, for men 25 years and older who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 3.4., is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

Previous champions include: Jay Sigel (1983, 1985, 1987), Tim Jackson (1994 and 2001); John ‘Spider’ Miller (1996 and 1996) and Danny Yates (1992).
