Mild weather yields banner December for Rocky Gap Resort, Md.

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort – home to the state’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature-designed golf course and a AAA Four-Diamond resort for the sixth consecutive year – reports an increase of 689 percent over projected rounds of golf played for December. Unseasonably warm and dry weather contributed to the sharp increase at the popular Western Maryland resort.

“Rocky Gap offers golfers the opportunity to play year round but this year the weather has been extremely player friendly,” says Steele Edwards, General Manager at Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort. “This was an excellent way to end the year and a perfect note to carry into 2007, given all the enhancements to the course, Garden Spa and guest suites that have taken place and are being implemented.”

Don Budd, head golf professional at Rocky Gap, credits the work done by superintendent Mark Jewell and his staff, saying golfers were in awe of the conditions.

“The great weather brought out a lot of golfers who were able to enjoy a golf course under terrific conditions,” Budd says. “The warm weather patterns we were treated to in December have remained, so we’re anticipating similar numbers for January.”

Located on Lake Habeeb in the shadow of Evitt’s Mountain, Rocky Gap’s championship golf course stretches to 7,000 yards and features five sets of tees to cater to golfers of all skill levels. Rocky Gap golf carts feature ProLink GPS technology. Mounted on every cart, ProLink produces lower scores and all around enjoyment.
