GOLFERS the world over are renowned for their often colorful and flamboyant apparel.
Now, thanks to an inventor from Northern Ireland, the clubs they carry can be in glorious technicolor too.
The Belfast-born entrepreneur has just launched a new golfing accessory – Shaft Skinz™ that looks set to brighten up our games this season.
The product is intent on replacing the look of the plain steel shafts on irons and putters, initially with a choice of six differently colored striped designs that make up the ‘Candy Stripes’ range at launch - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and pink.
Golfers slide plastic film sleeves onto the steel shafts of their golf clubs, heat shrink them with a hairdryer then trim away the excess. “It’s idiot proof,” said one club professional.
Now, in just a few minutes, players can have personalised, colorful clubs that say as much about them as their golf ever could.
Other ranges, ‘Fluro Skinz’ and ‘Candy Skinz’, are planned for the coming months and the choice looks set to grow rapidly.
The brainchild behind the idea, a single-figure handicap golfer himself, said: “Golf is increasingly providing participants with opportunities to be overtly expressive be that though their clothes or equipment.
“Oddly enough, just about the only part that can still be a bit dull are the clubs themselves. Shaft Skinz™ solve that in a couple of minutes and encourage golfers to ‘play with color’.”
The results certainly look impressive and testing has shown that the playability of the shaft is unaffected.
The sleeves have the added attraction of providing an element of protection from the bangs and scrapes that golf clubs suffer over time.
Each pack contains 12 sleeves and should be sufficient to ‘skin’ all the steel shafted clubs in your bag since most golfers carry a couple with graphite shafts.
Currently, Shaft Skinz™ are only available for sale from www.shaftskinz.com for £19.99 (less than $40) plus P&P but you can expect to see them in all good golf stores very soon.
So if you’re going to play at all this season, get ahead of the competition and ‘play with color’.
