Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announces 14th Annual Veterans Golf Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday -- the Grand Strand's golf marketing cooperative - announces its 14h annual Veterans Golf Classic will be held May 19 -- 22.

Open to all current or former U.S. military members and friends, the 54-hole event is comprised of two-person teams vying in four handicapped flights - Eisenhower, MacArthur, Nimitz and Franks divisions. The event features a different format each day - better ball, scramble and combined net team score. Each team must include at least one former or present member of the armed forces.

Twelve area courses -- Aberdeen, Arrowhead, Black Bear, Indian Wells, Man-O-War, Possum Trot, Riverhills, Shaftesbury Glen, Tradition, Wicked Stick, Willard Byrd Course at Sea Trail, and The Wizard - will serve as host sites.

Tournament competition extends beyond the two-man team event. The Branch Challenge pits the five branches of the U.S. military against each other with the lowest cumulative score crowned champion. In 2012, Army repeated as champion. The Carolina Cup -- matching members of the VFW against the American Legion -- is an additional tournament within the tournament. VFW won for the eighth time in the last nine years.

"The continued success of our annual Veterans Golf Classic speaks volumes to how much the Myrtle Beach area values our service personnel for all they do and have done for our country," says Jeff Monday, Golf Holiday's Tournament Director.
