William K. Wolfrum: Wie fails first Stanford test: Her choices for majors don't exist

A crack WorldGolf.com reader wrote in yesterday with an interesting find in the stories that came out about Michelle Wie being accepted into Stanford. You see, most the stories repeated this same line: "Wie said she did not know what she would study, but narrowed it down to business, economics or marketing."

One problem: Stanford doesn't offer majors in two of those fields.

"Nothing wrong with economics, but it's clearly she did not put the effort into researching about Stanford. If she did, she wouldn't have considered in majoring in business or marketing. Why? Cause Stanford doesn't have a business or economics major! It clearly shows that she did not really research about the college she got accepted to," wrote chineseboy08.

And our reader was correct. While Stanford does have a fine post-graduate business program, business and marketing are just not options for a bachelor's degree at the prestigious university.

So, to Michelle, good luck in your pursuit of a degree in economics.
