Having put together several TravelGolf.com Top 10s myself, for hot spots like Arizona, Las Vegas and Southern California, I know the care and work that goes into them.
Head pros, regular golfers, travel industry types and golf packagers - who may actually play more golf than anyone in their locales - are consulted. And I wouldn't want to question a Myrtle Beach Top 10 from Tim McDonald, who knows the Grand Strand like the Cincinnati Bengals know jail.
Still ...
Barefoot Resort Fazio Course deserves a spot in any Myrtle Beach Top 10. This visual wonder which forces plenty of interesting shots with its uneven lies and raised greens belongs like Jessica Simpson would in a Dumb Blonde Hall of Fame.
Good holes keep coming at you one after the other at Barefoot Fazio and some of the visuals from the elevated tee boxes are just stunning. And intimidating.
Now, I know McDonald's not one of those close-minded golf scribes who just won't consider anything from Tom Fazio because the celebrity architect is not au natural enough. So I'm assuming he relied on some shaky advice in this omission.
I was happy to see that a few readers wrote in calling for Barefoot Fazio's rightful inclusion before I got to Myrtle Beach and had a chance to play it.
Of course, if you want to put another course in the Top 10, you have to drop somebody else out. In this case, that's rather easy. Why not start with the Barefoot Resort Dye Course. Barefoot's own head pro Mike Ross told me that "it's maddening" at times.
Sorry, a course that just crushes hackers to crush them doesn't need this super lofty status.
I'm also not sure that Barefoot Resort Love Course deserves to be in the No. 1 spot, but that's an argument for another blog. And it'd still be Top 10 anyways. There isn't any robbery going on there. Not having Barefoot Fazio in the Top 10? That's a crime.
Then again, that's why these lists are fun: the debate.
