“This field is a really good barometer for the type of professional talent that exists in our sport today, and in the Canadian Tour in particular. These guys are bona fide pros but they often lack consistent backing to showcase their skills in pursuit of a Nationwide or PGA TOUR card,” said PTGL Spokesperson and 2006 Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman. “This weekend’s event will connect fans and players like never before and provide a new training ground for intense match play competition.”

The USA vs. Canada Team Match will be televised in North America, although an air date has not yet been determined.

Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member Dan Halldorson and three-time PGA TOUR winner Lon Hinkle have been named honorary captains for their respective squads at the Pro Team Golf League’s (PTGL) USA vs. Canada Team Match presented by the Canadian Tour.
League play for PTGL will begin in 2007 with eight charter teams competing throughout North America in a 24 game regular season, followed by a single elimination post season playoff. PTGL is the only competitive team league consisting solely of touring professionals not playing on the PGA or Nationwide Tours.

“Pro Team Golf League is the new equation in golf where fantasy gamers, golf fans and touring professionals intersect in one community,” said PTGL Chairman Dave Braun. “For the first time ever, sports fans can go inside the ropes and truly affect the outcome of a match by becoming a coach.”
