Tamarack Resort's Osprey Meadows earns Golf Digest Best New

TAMARACK, Idaho -- Golf Digest, the most highly recognized golf publication in America, has honored Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort by naming it America’s Best New Public Course $75 and Over for 2006.

“It was a season that celebrated authenticity in golf design,” said Ron Whitten, Golf Digest Senior Editor, Architecture. In writing about Osprey Meadows Whitten noted, “Osprey Meadows' strongest virtue is in the Aesthetics category, the sweeping grandeur of its layout in a location ringed by mountain ranges.”

In describing Osprey Meadows (www.golfdigest.com/bestnew), Golf Digest wrote:
“The delights of Osprey Meadows, Golf Digest's Best New Public Course $75 and Over, include rich green bluegrass fairways, gracefully sculptured bunkers, generous (and generously contoured) putting surfaces, all framed by marshland habitats, tallgrass meadows, clusters of birch, walls of towering Douglas firs and the panorama of 21-mile-long Lake Cascade, Idaho's version of Lake Tahoe--without the rooftops.”

“Those who played Osprey Meadows during its inaugural season marveled at the dramatic changes in landscape that create this unique golf experience,” says Alfredo Miguel, Tamarack’s Chairman of the Board and avid golfer. “To receive national recognition from such a highly respected publication is a tribute to this majestic landscape, the vision of course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., and the hard work and dedication of our golf team, led by Director Tom Altmann.”

“This is a validation of the vision we had when we began building Osprey Meadows,” says Tom Altmann, Director of Golf. “Our goal was to create a golf experience second to none in the West with a course that seamlessly integrates with the natural terrain. We are honored that the readers of Golf Digest awarded our efforts.”

This is the fifth ‘Best New’ win for renowned course design firm Robert Trent Jones II.
“This honor means a great deal to everyone here at Robert Trent Jones II and we strongly believe this recognition will reap benefits not only for Tamarack Resort, but also the entire State of Idaho,” says Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Master Architect and Chairman of Robert Trent Jones II. “We urge those of you who have not had the wonderful opportunity to play Osprey Meadows to do so when the snow melts in 2007! What you will find is an unforgettable golf course that melds lightly on the land while embracing the scenic beauty provided by Mother Nature. We extend our heartfelt thank you to the owners of Tamarack Resort for providing us such a spectacular canvas on which to paint our dream into reality.”

During Osprey Meadows’ inaugural season, the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf selected the course as its International Resort Headquarters.

“Nicklaus Academies is excited to learn of the honor and prestige that comes with this well-deserved ranking by Golf Digest,” says Scott Adcock, Nicklaus Academies CEO. “Osprey Meadows is a fantastic course and a fabulous venue for our instruction program. We are proud to be associated with this world-class resort.”

Osprey Meadows will open for the 2007 season on May 19. For information call 208.325.GOLF.
