Kizziar wins the Champions Tour's 2004 Bruno Award

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Nov. 22, 2004 – Longtime golf administrator and Champions Tour tournament promoter Mark Kizziar has been named the 2004 winner of the Bruno Award. Kizziar's honor was announced Friday at the Annual Meeting of the Champions Tour Tournament Association (CTTA).

Phil Garcia of the Blue Angels Classic, chairman of the CTTA Board of Directors, presented the Bruno Award to Kizziar. The Bruno Award is presented annually to an individual judged to have made special contributions to the Champions Tour.

Kizziar has a long and distinguished resume in the golf business. A member of the PGA of America for 39 years, he is president of Superstition Mountain Properties, Inc.

The Texas native served as tournament chairman of one of the Champions Tour's five majors, The Tradition (now Jeld-Wen Tradition), from 1989-2002. A past president of the PGA of America (1983, 1984), Kizziar has been a member of the CTTA Board for nine years. He also served as a member of the PGA Tour Policy Board for six years.

Well versed in the rules of golf, Kizziar has served on the Rules Committee at the U.S. Open, Masters and PGA Championship numerous times over the last two decades. He directed the 1981 and 1982 PGA Championships as well as the 1985 and 1986 Senior PGA Championship, and was chairman of the 1985 Ryder Cup.

The Bruno Award is named in honor of Brian "Bruno" Henning, formerly vice president, competitions for the Champions Tour. Henning was a pioneer for the Champions Tour, handling a myriad of tournament-related details, including course selection and set-up, sponsor recruitment and conduct of the competition from 1981 to 2001.

The South African native was named the inaugural recipient of the award in December 2001. The late Fred Raphael was honored in 2002 and Deane Beman in 2003.

Nominations for the award are solicited from the Champions Tour, Champions Tour Tournament Association, its tournaments and sponsors, Champions Tour players and the media. One representative from each organization participates on a panel to determine each year's recipient. A permanent bronze statuette and plaque identifying the winners is on display at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
