Kapil wins the Nokia9500 Communicator Series

NEW DELHI – Nov. 22, 2004 – Kapil Dev added to his growing reputation as the premier golfer on the corporate golf circuit, by winning the glittering Nokia 9500 Communicator Series Trophy at the Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon, near New Delhi on Saturday.

The former India cricket captain, playing every weekend and often more, brought home a card of two-under 70 to grab the first prize in the Gross Category. Playing to a handicap of three, that could soon approach scratch, Kapil’s score was way ahead of the second placed Pankaj Sethi, a six-handicapper, who brought in a card of 75.

Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director of Nokia India Pvt Ltd, and Jeff Ratzlaff, Director Marketing – Enterprise Solutions, Nokia Asia-Pacific gave away the prizes. This was the second in the Nokia 9500 Communicator series of golf events. The first one was in Kolkata earlier in the month and the third and final event of the series is scheduled for December 4, 2004 in Bangalore.

Ranjan Bhattacharya emerged the winner in the Stableford category with a score of 44 stableford points, while Rajeev Chopra was second with 42 and Gaurav Taneja was third with 41.

Ranjit Nanda, India’s premier course designer had the straightest drive, which was 10 inches from the straight line while Alok Shriram was just two inches from the maker to take the ‘Monster Putt’ prize.

Sunil Bhalla was best in terms of Closest to the Pin and Kapil Dev had another prize being the longest of the tee for the Longest Drive of 320 yards. Sanjeev Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
