How many golf tips have you tried in 2006? The average Golfer has tried 33 tips this year alone. Now 33 different swing thoughts are about 32 too many to be thinking about on every swing.
Now I know there are a few Golfers that are saying – "Marc, I try a new tip from time to time, but if it doesn't work to help me hit the ball better – I just stop using it. So, I’m only working on one tip at a time."
Unfortunately that's not true. Every tip you've ever tried has become a part of your golf swing. You can't just try something for a few days and then because you don’t think about that tip anymore – expect it to go away and not be a part of your swing anymore. Your golf swing isn't like a light switch that you can turn on and off with a flick of the switch!
For example: if you hit a 100 golf balls while working on turning your wrists over through impact (which from the emails I receive from Golfers is the hot tip these days) to get more distance – if it didn't work for you (you started shanking the golf ball), do you think you could just instantly stop turning your wrists over when you saw that it didn't work? And then expect to instantly have your swing transported back to exactly where it was before you tried the new tip?
Of course not!
You'll then have to search for another tip to stop you from turning your wrists over. Then you'll have to hit 100 more golf balls with the new tip while at the same time trying to stop the wrists from turning over. So now you have yourself trying a new tip as you try to resist using an old tip – while at the same time you're battling all the other past tips you've tried. Along with trying to hit a golf ball without shanking in front of all the other golfers that are trying new tips to cover up for old tips that didn't work.
And this is reality. Because every time you're at the driving range hitting golf balls – every other Golfer is going through the same dilemma as you. We're all trying to sweep all the old tips you've tried in the past "under the rug" by trying new tips to fix them. Then when the new tip doesn’t work you're off to find the next tip – though when you do find it, you need to go through the whole frustrating scenario again where you're stuck between tips on every swing.
And this is why Golfers don't improve! Even though Golf Digest and Golf Tec and Golf This & That tell you that you'll improve. This style of Golf Instruction that's based on giving tips to fix perceived swing faults doesn't work – the stats prove it!
