Champ Spikes capture victory at Dunlop Phoenix Championship

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- CHAMP Spikes, the number one brand on tour, added another title to its highly successful 2006 season. Already winners of 28 PGA titles, including the 2006 PGA Grand Slam events, CHAMP picked up the Dunlop Phoenix Championship over the weekend.
An unpredictable ending for the Miyazaki, Japan based tournament as the champion upset the number one golfer in the world but the ending was predictable for CHAMP Spikes, as both golfers sported the number one brand on tour. The winner tapped in a birdie on the second playoff hole to stun the two-time defending champion. Even more remarkable, the eventual winner was down three strokes with six holes to play before his exciting comeback for the title.

The winner sported the revolutionary CDT cleat, a unique spike specially designed and made by CHAMP specifically for Hi-Tec shoes, providing better directional traction and elongated legs for the unpredictable terrain. The opponent looked to the CHAMP Cermec® Spike with their traditional metal spikes for steady grip and a firm hold on the course. One thing both players had in common was their CHAMP Spikes used the patented Q-LOK® system. Q-LOK is the industry’s quickest and easiest receptacle system to use as the spikes can be removed and replaced with just ¼ of a turn of the wrench.

“This is a great victory for CHAMP and our partners at Hi-Tec,” said Harris MacNeill, President, CHAMP Spikes. “The spikes we designed and make for Hi-Tec are the culmination of a cooperative effort. It’s even better to see that their shoes come equipped with the Q-Lok system as more manufacturers are seeing the benefits of the easy to use system.”
With this victory, CHAMP now owns 28 of 42 PGA TOUR titles, 15 of 23 on the European Tour and 12 of 23 on the LPGA in 2006. CHAMP Spikes also captured the elusive PGA “Grand Slam,” as CHAMP swept all four major tournaments.
