RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- Rolex Rankings No. 1 and 2011 Kraft Nabisco champion Stacy Lewis and No. 2 Yani Tseng headline an elite field this week at the Kraft Nabisco Championship – golf’s first major of 2013 – airing exclusively on Golf Channel, with more than 20 hours of live tournament and wraparound news coverage.
Twenty-three of the top-25 in the Rolex Rankings and each of the top-50 from the 2012 LPGA Official Money List are scheduled to compete this week at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. In addition to the world’s top-two players, the field also will feature defending champion Sun Young Yoo, I.K. Kim – who captured the world’s attention in 2012 when she missed a 14-inch putt on the 72nd hole of the tournament – and 15-year-old amateur sensation Lydia Ko, who will make her third LPGA Tour appearance of the season.
MORE THAN 20 HOURS OF LIVE TOURNAMENT AND NEWS COVERAGE: Golf Channel will provide six hours of live coverage Thursday and Friday from Noon-3 p.m. ET and 6-9 p.m. ET. Weekend coverage will air from 5-9 p.m. ET. Terry Gannon will anchor Golf Channel’s coverage as play-by-play host of the telecast, joined by Hall-of-Famer Judy Rankin as lead analyst. Tom Abbott will call the action from a tower position, with Kay Cockerill, Jerry Foltz and Phil Parkin reporting from the course. Kelly Tilghman will serve as show host and will conduct interviews. Golf Central will provide wraparound news coverage before and after live coverage Thursday-Sunday with live reports, highlights, interviews and analysis.
THURSDAY FEATURED PAIRINGS: Featured pairings for Thursday’s opening round include Stacy Lewis and I.K. Kim (11:22 a.m. ET); Michelle Wie and Lydia Ko (11:30 a.m. ET) and Yani Tseng and Jiyai Shin (4:14 p.m. ET).
KRAFT NABISCO CHAMPIONSHIP PRO-AM SPECIAL: Wednesday (tonight) at 9 p.m. ET, Golf Channel will air the Kraft Nabisco Championship Pro-Am, an hour-long special that will go inside the ropes to Wednesday’s Celebrity Pro-Am Hosted by Annika. Danielle Kang, Jessica Korda, Anna Nordqvist and Annika Sorenstam will be “mic’d up” during the Pro-Am.
Golf Channel’s tournament coverage will include feature Sorenstam – a three-time winner at the Kraft Nabisco Championship – in the broadcast booth Thursday and Friday from 1-2 p.m. ET. Coverage also will include a feature on I.K. Kim, reflecting on her missed putt at the 72nd and final hole in 2012.
