NORCROSS, Ga. -- Mizuno Brand Ambassador Stacy Lewis captured her second consecutive LPGA victory of 2013 in dramatic, come-from-behind fashion in Phoenix at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, outplaying her opponents to end with a three-stroke victory. Lewis shot an 8-under 64 in the final round, highlighted by nine birdies to shoot 23-under for the tournament and secure the No. 1 spot on the Rolex Rankings.
Lewis entered the final round trailing Ai Miyazato by four strokes after incurring a two-stroke penalty on the 16th hole during Saturday's third round. Known for fighting off adversity, Lewis rebounded on Sunday at that same hole where a three-shot swing occurred and recorded back-to-back birdies on 16th and 17th to hold off Miyazato. Lewis claimed her second title of the season with the help of her Mizuno JPX-825 Pro irons, MP T-11 wedges, JPX-825 hybrid and MP-650 fairway wood.
"There is no doubt in our minds Stacy is the best woman golfer in the world and we are thrilled to congratulate her on a second consecutive LPGA Tour victory," said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Mizuno USA Golf. "Stacy's climb to the No. 1 position gives Mizuno the honor to have had both Men's and Women's No. 1 golfers within the past year. We feel privileged to have both Luke Donald and Stacy as part of the Mizuno family, using our equipment and representing the Mizuno brand with class."
Following a four-win season in 2012 and an incredibly hot start to 2013, Lewis now sits atop the Rolex Rankings for the first time in her career. Ending Yani Tseng's reign of 109 weeks atop the rankings, Lewis is one of only seven players to hold the coveted spot, including Tseng, Annika Sorenstam, Loren Ochoa, Jiyai Shin, AI Miyazato and Christie Kerr.
Mizuno is also helping golfers nationwide improve their game and the opportunity to be treated like Lewis as an exclusive member of "Team JPX." Launched in early March, Play Famously is championing the cause and determination of amateur golfers across the country. Using Lewis' iron of choice, the JPX-825 line of game-improvement irons, 11 golfers will earn a coveted spot on the team. Golfers can enter to win online during select application periods from March to May 2013.
