ORLANDO, Fla. -- After finishing 2012 with the most-watched year in the network’s 18-year history, Golf Channel scored its most-watched January. For 24-hour Total Day (6AM-6AM), 105,000 average viewers per minute were tuned into Golf Channel in January, representing a 22% year-over-year increase compared to January 2012 (86,000), 27% vs. January 2011 (83,000) and 78% vs. January 2010 (59,000). Over the course of January, Golf Channel had 14.6 million unique viewers, which includes three telecasts with million-plus audiences, according to data released today by The Nielsen Company.
“Over the past couple of years, Golf Channel has focused on adding more high-quality programming and our viewers have responded by watching in record numbers,” said Golf Channel President Mike McCarley. “Our increasingly loyal audience watched Golf Channel more than any January in our history, and those viewers were treated to some remarkable golf on the PGA TOUR. But as we begin February, the best is yet to come with a full slate of competitive golf from all the professional tours.
This record January represents further viewership momentum for Golf Channel, which in 2012 posted the network’s most-watched year ever. This surge in viewership continues to drive Golf Channel’s status as the fastest-growing network on U.S. television since joining the NBC Sports Group (among networks serving 80 million or more homes throughout that span).
