I'm a fan of Tiger Woods, perhaps a really big fan – but only as a player. I love to see him win tournaments. It creates history and I love golf history. And I know he has a few philanthropic endeavors, but, primarily, he's a player of the game. But now, Tiger wants to be a designer of golf courses. What the hell is he thinking?
I don't care how many golf courses he has played around the world. I don't care what experts he's going to consult with. I don't care how many millions of dollars he's going to charge. (Oh, sorry, that shouldn't be a concern.) Major championship victories do not equal major championship designer.
In his press release he stated, "Having played on almost every continent, TWD plans to share Tiger's varied experiences with every skill level of golfer." Now how in the world is Tiger going to share his experience with a player who plays off a 26? I played with one yesterday. A joy to play with, never got upset with a errant shot, but I have a feeling that he might not totally enjoy the TW experience. That is if he can afford to pay the price to have a chance to enjoy the TW experience. Let's face it, creating the TW experience will not be cheap. (The Cheap Bastard probably won't be blogging about a TW course.) Before he gets down on his knees and turns the first teaspoon of dirt, some golf course developer will already have forked over several million bucks to TW Design. So how much do you think Mr. "Every skill level of golfer" will have to expend to play? He'll need to have the money of Tiger Woods to enjoy the TW experience.
Note to Tiger: Can I buy a 10-round pass now at pre-construction prices?
