Celebrity field at Humana Challenge filled with big star power

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Keeping with its rich tradition of bringing its fans a wide variety of stars from screen, studio and stadium, the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation once again features a star-studded list of celebrities teeing off in the amateur field of the PGA TOUR event Jan. 14-20.

Headlining that list is talk-show host and former Coachella Valley radio personality Carson Daly (The Voice, Late Night With Carson Daly), actor Craig T. Nelson (Coach, Parenthood), comedian Ron White and multi-platinum award singer Michael Bolton.

The 2013 Humana Challenge is a four-round, 72-hole golf tournament to be played at PGA WEST's Palmer and Nicklaus Private Courses and La Quinta Country Club. The event features an expanded field of 156 PGA TOUR professionals and 156 amateurs, including celebrities, in three rounds of play in a pro-am format - with the pro-am teams consisting of one professional and one amateur playing in groups of four - and professionals only in Sunday's final round.

Joining Daly, Nelson, White and Bolton are musicians Alice Cooper and Don Felder (formerly of The Eagles), along with actors Peter Gallagher (Covert Affairs, The OC, Mr. Deeds), Anthony Anderson (Law and Order) and Michael Pena (Million Dollar Baby, Crash).

Celebrity athletes have always been an integral part of the event's history. This year's group include newcomers Ozzie Smith, a member of the Baseball Hall-of-Fame, and NFL players Ronde Barber and Jay Feely, and returners Eric Dickerson and Ahmad Rashad.

As they were in 2012, the celebrities will once again be split among, and rotate on, the three tournament courses.

"We are proud to once again feature a wide and rich variety of celebrities for our pro-am field," Humana Challenge Executive Director and CEO Bob Marra said. "This is something we know our fans take to their hearts and something they really take pride in and we are thrilled that Carson, Ron, Michael and their fellow celebrities are back to put on another show for our fans."

The Humana Challenge, which continues to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob Hope, was named 2012 Sports Event of the Year by Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily, and received the PGA TOUR's "Best On-Site Staging" award in 2012 at December's PGA TOUR Tournament Meetings.

The Humana Challenge has received playing commitments from defending Humana Challenge champion Mark Wilson, reigning FedExCup champion and World No. 10 Brandt Snedeker and four-time major championship winner Phil Mickelson, the event champion in 2002 and 2004. Also entered are past champions Bill Haas, Jhonattan Vegas, Pat Perez, D.J. Trahan, Chad Campbell and Justin Leonard.
