Jason Zuback, the most decorated athlete in power golf, captured the 2006 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship for a record fifth time. Zuback, whose winning blast traveled 368 yards, 29”, edged runner-up and fellow Pinnacle Distance Team member Eric Lastowka (355 yards, 6”) for the Open Division title. The event was contested at The Palms Golf Course in Mesquite, Nevada with evening temperatures in the 60’s and no appreciable breeze.
Zuback was the premier catalyst in the growth of the sport when he reeled off four consecutive RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship crowns from 1996-99. The 36-year old, a resident of Calgary, Alberta, was elected to the Long Drivers of America (LDA) Hall of Fame in 2003. Zuback earned $125,000 from a RE/MAX record purse of $500,000.
