Georgia's Currahee Club wins promotional support of Billy Kratzert

TOCCOA, Lake Hartwell, Ga. -- It is not difficult to be enthusiastic about Currahee Club, the stunning 1,200-acre golf community on Lake Hartwell, but former PGA Tour professional and the club's newest property owner, Billy Kratzert, is taking his enthusiasm to new heights.

Kratzert, who owns a homesite overlooking the 17th hole at Currahee Club, has offered to spread the good word about the community in his travels covering the professional golf tours. He will also engage with club members when he's onsite and support Currahee in whatever other avenues his free-time allows.

Originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., Kratzert is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was a two-time All American. He joined the PGA Tour in 1976 and was a four-time winner during his career. He currently travels the world as an on-course analyst for 24 PGA and Champions Tour events aired on CBS, ESPN and Turner Broadcasting. Kratzert also hosts a weekly pre-tournament television show called "On the Range," aired Wednesdays during the season on Golf Channel.

Says Kratzert, "I'm thrilled to be a part of the Currahee family and to sing its praises. The principals and management in the property have such a strong commitment to excellence and to nurturing a true sense of community in this uncommonly beautiful setting."

Current plans call for Kratzert to guest host several special events during the course of the year, including a collegiate alumni golf tournament, a golf media day, custom teaching clinics and a local civic golf tournament. He also will be hosting a video about the community to be shared through a DVD and a variety of social media channels. Additionally, Kratzert's Tour golf bag will take a proud place in the Currahee golf shop.

Currahee Club Managing Director Andrew Ward sees a genuine family relationship ahead for Kratzert and the community. Says Ward, "We are delighted to have Billy's involvement as a property owner, member and new friend within Currahee Club, and look forward to sharing great times and great stories with him and his family in the years ahead. It came as no surprise to us that Billy became smitten with all things Currahee; it's a special place where dreams will come true, and property owners become a part of the Currahee family lifestyle. The Kratzert family will enjoy their participation and involvement in our clubs for decades to come."

Kratzert, who has played the Currahee Club golf course multiple times with Director of Golf Clark Spratlin, considers the course one of the finest he has seen in decades of playing and covering golf.

"The golf course has so much character, memorability and dramatic elevation change. Yet, it's also very player friendly…and the views of the mountains and lake are spectacular," added Kratzert.

The Currahee Club course was recently ranked no. 62 in the country on Golfweek magazine's annual list of "Best Residential Course." The course is ranked 3rd in Georgia.
