Peninsula Golf & Country Club wins Troon Cup Golf Tournament

MILLSBORO, Del. -- The Peninsula Golf & Country Club at The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay took home first place at the fourth annual Troon Cup Golf Tournament at the Westin LaCantera Resort in San Antonio, Texas. Managed by Troon Golf, the world’s largest golf management company, The Peninsula opened Delaware’s first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in April 2006. Director of Golf at The Peninsula Golf & Country Club Troy Flateau led his team to victory.

Troon’s annual golf tournament invites four-person teams from Troon Golf-managed private clubs around the world. This year, 19 clubs participated, and the 2006 Cup was The Peninsula’s second year of participation.

The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay is Delaware’s first, private, gated luxury community in Delaware to feature a private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. When completed, The Peninsula will include 1,404 homes, including custom homes, luxury condominiums, town homes and villas, as well as a $40-million amenity package, including luxurious full-service club activities, a wave lagoon, a nature and exploration center, a full-service spa, restaurants and retail.

The winning team at the Troon Cup included Flateau and Peninsula members Bob Krauss, Jackee Krauss and Tom Gargan. Gargan also won the long drive contest. The team won a crystal trophy and each member received a new set of Titleist golf clubs.

The Peninsula’s second team, led by Membership Director Monte Schisler, came away with fourth place. Schisler’s team included Peninsula members Bobby Gross, Bill West and Mitchell Cox. Cox also secured a closest-to-pin prize.

“Hats off to the Peninsula Club,” commented Tim Greenwell, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Troon Golf. “Just like the European team at the Ryder Cup, winning is often as much of a result of team unity as it is of being the most talented. Placing both teams among the top four in the highly competitive Troon Cup speaks volumes of the Peninsula Club’s spirit.”
